Vail Ski Proposal | Andrew & Kim

This Vail ski proposal on a beautiful bluebird day in March was the ideal way to propose while skiing and snowboarding! Andrew and Kim came from Massachusetts to experience skiing in Colorado. They ski a lot on the east coast and have even skied in the Alps, but this was their first time skiing and snowboarding in Colorado.

Ski & Snowboard Proposal in Vail

Andrew proposed on the morning of their first day on the mountain. Even before their first run! They got to the top of the lift near the back bowls and were checking out the incredible views together. Then Andrew got down on one knee and proposed. Kim was completely surprised! Of course she said yes and was beyond excited to start their first day skiing and boarding in Vail engaged!

After Andrew proposed, I did several runs and skied the back bowls with them. Andrew and Kim are both amazing at skiing and boarding, so I had a lot of fun taking some action photos of them.  Once photos were done Andrew and Kim continued to spend the day exploring Vail. I don’t think you could dream up a more ideal day for a couple who loves skiing and snowboarding together!

How to Plan a Ski Proposal in Vail Colorado

Andrew reached out to me about a month before their trip and told me about his plans to propose to Kim while skiing and snowboarding. Andrew knew he wanted a spot near the back bowls, but wasn’t sure where would be best. As a Colorado Ski Photographer I know the runs at Vail Ski Resorts well, so I was able to help Andrew pick a spot in the Vail back bowls with incredible views.

Vail Ski Resort is massive with so many amazing runs. It seems like every direction you look has an incredible mountain view. If you’re planning to propose on Vail Mountain while skiing or snowboarding, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Choose a location with low traffic. As you start to get away from the main lifts on the front side of the mountain, Vail has a long list of trails to choose from.

  • Most likely to get a more private feel, you’ll need to work your way towards the back bowls or towards Blue Sky Basin. New or beginner skiers? Head towards Two Elk Lodge. There are a handful of green trails nearby with pretty mountain views too.
