Ski Engagement Photos at Beaver Creek Ski Resort

We had perfect weather for these ski engagement photos at Beaver Creek Ski Resort. Roman and Abby are a Texas couple who come to Colorado yearly for a ski trip with friends! They got engaged at Beaver Creek Ski Resort and it was the perfect backdrop for some photos!

We started their ski engagement photos with a gondola ride to the top, so I could capture them skiing down some runs together. We stopped at various places as they made their way down to the base of Beaver Creek. Once we made it down the mountain, we headed into Beaver Creek Village for more portraits. Their ski trip was right before Christmas so the village was decked out in festive Christmas decor! Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better day for Roman and Abby’s ski engagement photos in Beaver Creek!

Planning a ski engagement session can feel intimidating at first, but it’s completely possible! Let’s dive into a few common questions couples have about engagement photos while skiing:

  • Do we need to be expert skiers or snowboarders? Heck no! As long as you feel comfortable on skis or your snowboard then we can make it happen. I’m totally cool with cruising down the greens or taking on more challenging runs. Whatever feels best for your skiing level works for me

  • How do we look cute with skis and snow boots? Sure, having engagement photos done while on skis and wearing ski boots can seem a bit cumbersome, but it’s part of my job to guide you with posing to help you look and feel your best! All you need is to be ready to have fun with your partner, and I’ll guide you through the entire photo process!

  • Can we do photos in normal clothes too? Of course! I offer Apres Ski sessions that we can do the day before, day of, or day after your session. It just depends on my availability and also what works best for you both!

If incorporating skiing and snowboarding into your engagement photos feels fitting to you and your partner, then I always recommend going for it! It will make your engagement photos even more special when they capture an activity you love doing together. Not many people can say they took their engagement photos while skiing!

Colorado Ski Couples Session in Winter Park

This Colorado skiing couples session in Winter Park was a ski lover’s dream powder day! Cat and Mike have been married for 12 years and love skiing together. They’re both from Florida, but now call Denver home. They ski most often at Winter Park and wanted photos that captured them doing their favorite winter sport together.

The day of Cat and Mike’s session was an early access day at Winter Park, which meant that we were able to start skiing at 7:45 a.m. We had the pleasure of skiing first tracks through several inches of powder! The powder was unlike anything I’ve ever skied in (and I ski a lot!). As full snowflakes were falling around us, the sun started peaking through the clouds and it was absolutely beautiful!

After some time skiing at Winter Park, we headed to where they were staying in Granby and found a spot nearby for Après-ski photos. They cracked a few Colorado beers to enjoy together. Then we took family portraits with their two dogs, Aspen and Kona. I had the best time skiing and hanging out with Cat and Mike!

Breckenridge Ski Engagement Session

We had beautiful, snowy weather for this Breckenridge Ski Engagement Session. While visiting Colorado for winter vacation, Rob and Natalia wanted engagement photos while skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Natalia and Rob live in the U.S., but are actually from two different countries. Rob is from Canada and Natalia is from Costa Rica, and their paths crossed to bring them together! One of the coolest parts of my job as a photographer is hearing all the ways people meet and end up falling in love!

Prior to skiing, I met up with Rob and Natalia for sunrise engagement photos near Lake Dillon. We caught an alpenglow which is always breathtaking to see! If you’re not familiar with an alpenglow, it’s when the sun is rising or setting and lights up the top of a mountain range. You’ll notice the pink hue on the mountains in the photo above of Natalia and Rob! They were able to get in a few different outfits for the first part of their session to have a variety of winter looks for their engagement photos. After starting off their session in their “normal clothes”, they donned their ski gear and we headed to Breckenridge to hit the slopes!

It turned out to be a super snowy day at Breckenridge. The snow was beautiful and added a magical winter feel to their photos. It was gorgeous! I had a blast skiing and photographing Natalia and Rob on this snow-filled day at Breckenridge!

Tips for Ski Engagement Photos in Breckenridge

Breckenridge is a very popular ski resort town in Colorado, and for good reason! It also means that you have to be intentional with your locations and the time of day you plan your session for. I work with all of my couples beforehand to make a plan that gives them the best ski engagement session experience possible! Here are a few of my top tips for ski engagement photos in Breckenridge:

  • Start your session earlier in the morning. The sun is softer and generally, the resort will be less busy, earlier in the day. For Natalia and Rob, we started with a sunrise session near the lake. Then we were at Breckenridge right around opening time at 9 a.m. It worked out perfectly!

  • Head towards less popular sections of the resort to avoid having a bunch of skiing and snowboarding strangers in your photos. Since I’m familiar with the trails at Breck, I guide my clients to less popular areas of the resort to make sure we have space and some privacy. Yes, I’ll always make sure there are runs that you and your partner feel comfortable skiing on too!

  • Embrace the weather. Some days in Colorado are sunny, bluebird ski days and other days are overcast, snowy days. It was chilly and snowing during Natalia and Rob’s ski session at Breckenridge, but they fully embraced the snowfall! There are times when a weather call is necessary, but the snow created dreamy, snow-filled photos for these two. It’s like they were in their own snowglobe!

Colorado Skiing Engagement Photos at Keystone Ski Resort

I loved meeting up with Caitlin and Alex for their Colorado skiing engagement photos at Keystone Ski Resort. These two met at college in Georgia and have been together ever since. Alex’s family has been coming to Keystone every year since he was a kid. With skiing being an important part of his life, Alex taught Caitlin how to ski, and she fell in love with the sport. For their engagement session, they wanted to include skiing since it’s one of their favorite activities to do together!

Alex and Caitlin came to Colorado after Christmas to spend New Years with Alex’s family. The pandemic had put them on hold from skiing, so they were beyond excited to hit the slopes! Occasionally, they get to ski in the Southeast, but to them nothing compares to skiing in Colorado.

Before heading to Keystone Resort for their ski engagement session, we met at a location nearby for a few photos Après Ski style in “normal clothes”. Then they swapped their sweaters for ski jackets and we headed to the resort to start their skiing engagement session.

I loved that Caitlin and Alex decided to include skiing in their engagement session. Couples are always curious about how to incorporate skiing into their engagement photos, but it’s quite simple.

First, decide that you want to ski for your engagement photos. Next, find a photographer who is comfortable and confident with skiing and up to photograph you! I started skiing at a young age and competitively alpine raced for 10 years, so skiing is like second nature to me. Once you have a photographer nailed down, next you’ll plan out the logistics like the mountain, date, and time. When a couple books a ski engagement session with me, I guide them through the entire process! Keystone Ski Resort is a special place to both Alex and Caitlin, so it made sense to plan their session at a place they love, and also a ski mountain they are familiar with.

I had so much fun getting to ski with Caitlin and Alex, and capturing their engagement photos at Keystone. To a skiing photographer, it really is the best of both worlds!

Review from the Couple

Caitlin and Alex left me an incredible view about their experience working with me!

“Gabrielle was incredibly fun to work with, making the photo taking process feel as natural as possible and perfectly reflecting us as a couple. She made both the skiing photos and après-ski photos such a smooth process, especially for two people notoriously awkward in front of cameras. With her photos, you would never know that was the case! We absolutely love our photos. We cannot stop looking at them, and neither can anyone we show them to! We had a blast the entire day. Not only is Gabrielle a wonderful photographer, but she's also extremely fun to ski with. She's a kind soul and an incredible photographer, we would absolutely recommend her to anyone!”- Caitlin & Alex

Arapahoe Basin Skiing Engagement | Sarah + Pierre-Yves

Sarah + Pierre-Yves had their skiing engagement session at Arapahoe Basin. Prior to skiing, we met at sunrise for some more formal photos at Sapphire Point Overlook in Dillon (as well as some ugly Christmas sweater pictures!). We caught a gorgeous alpenglow across the reservoir on the Tenmile Range. When we got to A-Basin, it was pretty cloudy, but then it opened up to a beautiful blue sky! They spent the day skiing, and had some trails completely to themselves. They even had snowball fight above 12,000’! Check out their awesome day below!
